shadcn/ui alternatives for React

Last updated · By Harjot Singh Rana

For buttons, dialogs, tabs and selects, shadcn/ui is still the default, and it is free. Look elsewhere when you want a different base (Radix UI or Base UI, both unstyled), more ready-made app patterns (coss ui), landing page effects and templates (Magic UI or Aceternity UI), or composed parts such as pricing toggles and OTP inputs with their edge cases tested (Brio UI).

I make Brio UI, one of the six libraries below, so weigh that. What this page says about the others is quoted from their own homepages and sitemaps, read on 18 October 2026.

What does shadcn/ui do well?

shadcn/ui calls itself “the foundation for your design system”. It is free, its source is on GitHub, and its docs list about 65 components, each in Radix, Base UI and Aria versions. Its CLI and registry format are how most of the libraries here install, Brio UI included. If primitives are what you need, you may not need an alternative at all.

Which shadcn/ui alternative should I pick?

LibraryIn its own wordsPricePick it when
Radix UI“Components, icons, and colors for building high‑quality, accessible UI.”Free, open sourceYou want accessible primitives and plan to style them yourself.
Base UI“Unstyled UI components for building accessible web apps and design systems.”Free, MITYou want unstyled, accessible components under MIT.
coss ui“A new, modern UI component library built on top of Base UI.”Free, no paid tier foundYou want styled app components and hundreds of ready-made patterns.
Magic UI“150+ free and open-source animated components and effects.”Free components, paid Pro templatesYou are building a landing page and want animated effects.
Aceternity UI“The React component library for beautiful landing pages.”117+ free components, paid All-Access for blocks and templatesYou want a finished landing page look quickly, from blocks and templates.
Brio UI“Everyday React components, edge cases handled.”10 free (MIT), 40 Pro, one-time from $9Your pricing toggle, OTP input or FAQ keeps breaking on real data.

When are Radix UI or Base UI the better choice?

When you want to own every style decision. Both ship behaviour and accessibility without a look, and both are free (Base UI is MIT). shadcn/ui’s own components come in versions built on each, so either one mixes in without friction. Expect to write more CSS than you would with shadcn/ui, which styles its components for you.

When is coss ui the better choice?

When you want a lot of finished app UI. coss ui is where Origin UI lives now (originui.com redirects to coss.com/ui). It is built on Base UI, and on 18 October 2026 its homepage offered 522 “particles”, pre-composed patterns you copy in. I found no paid tier. On the number of ready-made patterns, it is far ahead of Brio UI.

When are Magic UI or Aceternity UI the better choice?

When the page is a landing page and it needs to look striking this week. Magic UI lists 150+ free animated components built with React, TypeScript, Tailwind CSS and Motion, sells templates in Magic UI Pro, and calls itself a “perfect companion for shadcn/ui”. Aceternity UI lists 117+ free components, and its paid All-Access adds 181+ blocks and 17 templates. For hero sections and background effects, either one gets you further than Brio UI does today.

When is Brio UI the better choice?

When the composed parts on top of the primitives keep breaking. Brio UI has 50 everyday components, such as a pricing toggle, OTP input, FAQ, changelog and contact form. Each one is a single file that imports only React and Motion, with light and dark themes and reduced motion respected.

Every free component ships with a worst-case test. The React pricing toggle, for example, is checked against a 9,999,999 price, a negative credit, three-decimal Kuwaiti dinar and Indian lakh grouping. Install one with npx brio-ui add pricing-toggle, or with the shadcn CLI.

Ten components are free under MIT. 6 are out now on the free React components page, and the rest follow one every two days through 30 October. The other 40 are Pro, paid once with no subscription: singles $9, packs $39, All-Access $149. Pro goes on sale in November 2026; the details are on Brio UI Pro pricing.

Where does Brio UI lose?

  • Size. 6 free components today, against about 65 in shadcn/ui and 150+ in Magic UI.
  • No primitives. Brio UI has no button, dialog or select, so you still need shadcn/ui, Radix UI or Base UI for those.
  • Price. Pro costs money and is not on sale until November 2026. shadcn/ui, Radix UI, Base UI and coss ui are free.
  • Age. The brio-ui package reached npm on 14 October 2026 at version 0.1.0, and one person builds it. The changelog has every release so far.

Can I use these alongside shadcn/ui?

Mostly, yes. Brio UI components depend only on React and Motion, so they sit next to shadcn/ui in one project, and the free ones install through the shadcn CLI. Magic UI says the same about itself. Radix UI and Base UI already sit under shadcn/ui’s components.
